My Creative Space Tour : Sarah @ Calico & Ivy

A couple of weeks ago I spent some time in Sydney with my lovely mate Kate. That meant I got to spend some time with a few gorgeous interstate girls. One of my first stops was Sarah who works at Calico and Ivy in Balmain. Sarah is one of the lucky few who get to work in a creative space. How could you be anything but inspired when you are surrounded with such loveliness each day.

Much of the creative loveliness that is Calico and Ivy is obviously for sale but what I was most interested in were the little pieces of Sarah I could see dotted around the store. Sarah is a regular at Rozelle Market. She has a keen eye and seems to nab the most amazing finds. A couple of trips ago I went to Rozelle Market on Sarah’s recommendation and it didn’t disappoint. Sarah’s vintage finds compliment the beautiful space that is Calico and Ivy perfectly.

I enjoyed seeing Sarah’s current quilt (feature image in this post) on the design wall at the back of the store. It’s going to be quite something when it’s finished don’t you think? Sarah and I chatted for a while about the merits of crafting from ‘scraps’ and she shared the beautiful star she pieced from remnant lace. This is absolutely the heart of craft in my opinion. The very thought that Sarah has fashioned something so beautiful and thoughtful using items crafted by previous generations of women just makes my heart sing. You can see from the items Sarah has purchased on behalf of the store that she feels this pull too.

Really just a delightful visit. Thanks for having me Sarah.

An amazing space, beautifully captured. Not only is it a beautiful place to be it’s staffed by gorgeous people! I popped in there last week to drop off a quilt and wanted to stay there all day. Unfortunately that idea was thwarted by the smallest who was obsessed with the felt and then started attacking the yarn displays. All of which Sarah watched with a very accepting and patient eye (I really hope I did tidy up sufficiently behind him …)
