The Twitlympics: Wow. Twitter has apparently played a very vocal part in The Olympics, with one athlete going so far as to say it cost her a gold medal. There’s also the nasty tweet from US comedian Jenny Johnson about the Australian female athletes to consider. The Olympic diver who was told he’d let his late father down by one troll. The critic who had his Twitter account shut down because he had a crack at NBC’s Olympics coverage. The Swiss footballer who’s facing being expelled from the Olympics after allegedly sending a racist tweet AND the Greek athlete who was sent home for racist tweets about African immigrants. Jeepers. Twitter, you scamp!
Childcare: Goodstart Early Learning are in talks with the Gillard government, hoping to launch round-the-clock childcare at a few of their long day-care centres. Extended hours on weekdays and weekend childcare are on the cards, with the changes aimed at accommodating shift workers and those who work weekends. Interesting. I can’t help but think that a LOT of people would be keen to use weekend daycare, especially those in the retail and health sectors. How about you? Would evening or weekend childcare be something you’d like to take advantage of? Read on here.
Lobster: I think you will like this story. An 80 year old lunch-destined lobster called ‘Larry’ who was treading water in a restaurant tank was SAVED from certain death by a creature loving man and released into a no nets area of Long Island Sound. Larry is now free to live out his days in peace, sans cocktail sauce. Awesome. ”This lobster has seen World War I, World War II, seen the landing on the moon and the Red Sox win the World Series, he’s made it this far in life,” crustacean fancier and saviour Don MacKenzie said. “He deserves to live.” More at the very good Good.
