The Dalai Lama: His Holiness has just won over one million pounds, awarded the Templeton Prize, for encouraging spirituality, kindness and compassion amongst other awesome qualities. Not surprisingly, he’s giving it all to charity, namely to Tibetan monks, to encourage their further education in the area of science. How cool. Read on at the BBC.
Manual Labor: In the US, young people who might otherwise have pursued creative careers (or are waiting to do so) are quietly doing some heavy lifting to pay their rent in an ailing economy. With service jobs in high demand (and awarded to the best looking, most qualified applicants), graduates are forced to temporarily shelve their employment ideals in favour of packing, lifting and lugging for a living. Kids & Gambling: Smartphone apps are teaching kids the kind of behaviours that could turn them into problem gamblers, The Australian reports. Canadian researcher Jennifer Reynolds warns that apps which encourage kids to buy online credits are a bit of a slippery slope, a kind of gambling disguised as gaming. Read on here.
