Tony Scott: Such sad news that Tony Scott, Hollywood director of films such as Top Gun and Crimson Tide has died. He was the brother of Ridley Scott and father of twin boys. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call Lifeline on 13 11 14.
Carrie Bickmore: After completing the ‘Couch to 5K’ program, Carrie Bickmore now runs four times a week, saying it’s her meditation. That’s cool. I’m not much of a runner myself, but it’s really heartening to see that people can commit to and adopt healthy new habits. I am totally inspired by that. Read more about why Carrie runs here.
Clive James: Did you ever see that horrid tabloid news show cover Leanne Edelsten’s relationship with Clive James? It was really awful. Clive James made a big mistake, cheating on his wife with Ms Edelsten. And Ms Edelsten made a stupid decision (I think), airing their private life together on telly as Mr James battled leukaemia. In this piece, Clive talks about being a terrible husband. I reckon he’s spot on.
Earthquakes: This is one of those items that starts off with me saying ‘This is cool!’ Because it is cool. These earthquake proof tables are designed for schools in fault zones, where kids are told to get under the table if disaster strikes. These tables will actually keep them safe and sound, unlike regular school desks. More at Good. How good is that? Who thinks of these things?! Wow.
