The Circle: Aw nuts. I was saddened by the news yesterday that Network Ten’s The Circle has been cancelled. Ugh. Network Ten say they are tightening the purse strings and The Circle regrettably had to go. I WISH they’d chosen the crappy Breakfast show instead because The Circle beat the pants off that in the ratings department. Makes no sense to me. Perhaps they are abandoning the old-fashioned advertorial funded format forever? Read Network Ten statement here.
Paper Giants 2: Rachel Griffiths is to play former New Idea editor Dulcie Boling in the follow up to Paper Giants: The Birth of Cleo, reports Mumbrella. The latest addition to the Paper Giants family is titled Paper Giants: Magazine Wars with Mandy McElhinney cast as Womans Day editor Nene King. Lucy Bell, Angus Sampson have also been cast. I can’t wait. As a former magazine addict I will watch with a keen eye and a nostalgic heart.
Retail vs Online: Gosh. It’s super tough in traditional retail. Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, Australia Post is revealed to be partnering with local website Tarazz.com.au (who stock brands such as Walmart and Buy.com) as their ‘exclusive shipping partner’. The site will offer goods at heavily discounted prices, shipped swiftly and cheaply to consumers doors. The prices are so good, in fact, I am not sure how local retail could compete. I’m really not sure what the answer to this whole online eroding bricks and mortar issue is. Things have changed. We need to work out ways to support traditional retail, whilst acknowledging how attractive online retail is. How do we do that?! More here.
