iPhone 4S  and i05: Did you know that you can tweak your iPhone so that it flashes instead of rings? (Would you WANT to do that?!) Also you can reprogram auto-correct.  And you really need to ask Siri to“open the pod bay doors” (a la 2001 : A Space Odyssey) or ask her “what’s the meaning of life?” Because she has a smart answer for you! Do it! Do it a FEW times.  More here.

Disney: In what Michelle Obama’s called a ‘Game Changer’, Disney has banned the advertising of junk foods across its entire corporation, meaning that the ads will no longer appear on Disney television channels or websites. The ban also includes the cartoon slots on some other channels, which are estimated to beam into one in four American homes each day. Great news! This could be the beginning of something BIG! I wonder if this means no more licensing Disney characters to fast food outlets too… More at the ABC.

Graphic, Violent News Reports: Okay. This is not really a news story. It’s about the way news is reported. Over the last few weeks there have been some horrific crimes involving things that I’d rather not mention. I’m sure you know the ones. I think it’s really horrible the way they are reported in such graphic detail on TV and radio at all hours of the day. SURELY we can use less descriptive, sensational terms when we report these crimes. SURELY we don’t need to know all the details. What do you think? Tell me in the comments, please? Am I being over sensitive?

being a super sensitive soul I have turned off ALL news in my house.
I just find it too upsetting, way too graphic and SUPER violent. way too much for me.

You can’t even have the RADIO on anymore, lest there be some announcement about something wretched. SURELY they could report less of the gory detail? x

Here here!!! Very distressing when I’m listening to music on the radio my car and a distressing report another cruel crime that has happened in the community comes on in graphic detail. Ruins your day because you can’t stop thinking about it….

I used to say that one day I’ll have my own news channel & only report on the good news stories, the stuff that makes you feel good & want to do good. I’d love that!!
What I don’t understand is when did BAD news become the news? Who decided that those are the stories we want to hear while eating dinner?

I still watch & listen, as do my kids & my youngest ( 9) will often ask about what’s being shown/told. He worries about crime & whether or not its happening near us & why it happens at all. It makes for some interesting & hard conversations….

On another note the news reported on Prince Phillip being ill. They said he had a bladder infection. Do we really need to know that? Does he want us knowing that? Could they not just say he is unwell? It really is a case of too much information, in all areas, sometimes isnt it?

It really is. I guess for the news services, it’s all about one upping each other and getting MORE news and MORE detail. But I would rather have the option to seek out that detail. I don’t need it haphazardly thrown at me in a quick news update. I want to opt in voluntarily, rather than be served up the graphic bits as a matter of course. x

I also meant to say H O O R A Y to Disney for taking the MONUMENTAL & NECESSARY leap in banning junk food advertising across their channels. This is a massive step in the right direction. It is super gutsy in terms of their fiscal revenue- but so so great to see such a big corporation taking a brave philosophical standpoint over and above the dollar! Go DISNEY!!

      YES! Go Disney! x
