Banksy: In street art news, Melbourne builders have accidentally destroyed one of Melbourne’s remaining Banksy stencils, cutting the stencilled rat in half! Jeepers. The piece was somehow valued at $50 000, and locals are (rightfully!) up in arms about its destruction. Do you know what, though? Most street artists are totally prepared for their work to be destroyed, tagged over or removed.  They are totally at peace with its impermanence.  It goes with the territory. Yes, it’s super sad that the Banksy rat got dissected… but my guess is Banksy wouldn’t care too much, and probably wouldn’t dream of putting a dollar value on his street pieces.  I think it’s a great idea to set up a register of street art to give tradesmen and building owners/renters more information about which pieces are of historical and artistic value, but I wonder what the artists think… Read on here.

Celebrity Apprentice: By now the winner is officially out, but the online editors at NineMSN accidentally leaked the winner of the Celeb Apprentice a night before the finale aired. Oh no!  NineMSN has apologised for its mega spoiler, but you can’t really UN-know what you know, can you?! Doh. Bummer Channel Nine!  More at news.com.au

The Voice: The Voice contestant Carmen Smith has left the show after it was discovered she’d sung on Guy Sebastian’s new single and appeared in his video too.  Channel Nine said that it gave her ‘unfair advantage’ and Carmen apparently agreed to leave, although she’s very disappointed.  This is so confusing. Contestants seem to be free to work professionally BEFORE the show starts, but not while the show is airing. I think that’s it. Read on here.

901 Million Users: Yes. That’s Facebook. And that’s more than 3 times the population of the US. One in 3 of the 2 billion people who use the internet use Facebook. Mind boggling, no?!  AND Facebook users are hyperlinked  by a mere 3.74 degrees of separation.  These are just a few of the multitude of statistics you can snapshot if you watch THIS animation. You should do it. It’s really interesting.
