Thursday: Newsy Snacks For Busy People
Emotion and Disease Detecting Glasses: No. Not an ad from the pages of a comic book, but rather actual new technology. OMG. Evolutionary neurobiologist Dr. Mark Changizi and his collaborators have developed a range of lenses which enhance our view of each other’s skin, blood, veins and more. Weird! The glasses have a practical application, aimed at helping doctors find veins and diagnose conditions such as anaemia more easily. But Dr Changizi thinks that they’ll have everyday uses too, helping us detect subtle changes in skin tone (and the physical signs of some emotions) making them useful for dating, playing poker and apparently sport too. Weird and amazing. More here.
Sindy: Did you have a Sindy doll? The ‘British Barbie’ who just would not squeeze her toosh into Barbie’s clothes is about to turn 50 and Pedigree Toys is marking the occasion with a Sindy relaunch. Hurrah. Yes, she’s still the same baby-faced Barbie alternative, but the New Sindy also has hair extensions, insane eyelashes and statement hair-dos. Oh my. You can read on here. I really loved my Ballerina Sindy A LOT.
Retail Sales: This is quite good, right? The Australian Bureau of Statistics says that retail sales for May were up 0.5% which is well above predicted figures. WA lead the charge with the best results, and the ABS also adjusted its April figures UP 0.1%. Read on here.
