Thursday: Newsy Snacks For Busy People
Atari: Wow. Atari just turned 40. It’s hard to believe that on-screen bat and ball game Pong was ever on the cutting edge of technology, but indeed it was when it was released back in 1972. We didn’t get an Atari until around 1980, but then you would find us kneeling in front of the telly Ponging back and forth. It seemed fun. I think it is mind numbingly boring, by todays’ standards! You can read more about the Atari anniversary here. Happy birthday to them!
Facebook: Well. Facebook has appointed the first woman to its board. Sheryl Sandberg was Mark Zuckerberg’s number 2 right hand woman before Facebook’s public offering, and now takes her place next to him on the newly appointed board. It’s interesting that it’s still SUCH a big deal when a woman takes a job like this, but it’s also great that Facebook took calls to appoint a woman seriously. She seems pretty pizazzy. Read on here.
Telstra: Hm. This is weird. Telstra has been accused of tracking the internet usage of its 4g network customers and onselling it to a US company. Telstra admit that this IS happening, that they are sending users’ URL visits to an offshore network in real time, but that they are working with US company Netsweeper to build a database of sites for a type of parental internet filter they are creating. Internode’s Mark Newton, a technical engineer, says it’s happening right now to some 4g customers, but Telstra says they are only sending our information, rather than storing it. Ugh. Big brother is watching. Read more here.
