Over The Fence Chat : Cheese!
Here at JustB, we’re not silly enough to think we know it all. We are smart enough to know that you guys are a veritable wealth of interestingness. We thought it would be an ace idea to have a weekly series where we talk about things that matter and you can tell us how it is for you. We think that’s what JustB is all about, really. How it is for YOU, too.
For sure we want to show you stuff and tell you things, but at the heart of it this is an exchange. Kinda like standing at the neighbour’s fence with a packet of Tim Tams and mugs of tea. You sip. You chat. You share a Tim Tam or two. She passes over a Chocolate Royal. It’s blogging Over The Fence style! We might go highbrow. We might go a little lower in the brow. But we’ll always go places that we both care about. So let’s GO!
This week, I want to talk about CHEESE! Gazooks! Okay. I know this is not earth shattering stuff. I know it’s not refugee policy, home birth or boob politics. I know that. But cheese is important too, right? It’s not that we don’t care about those important topics. We do. But we are multi-faceted people and our lives are made up of tons of different elements, right? Sometimes we are so busy talking about the BIG issues, that we don’t chat over the fence about the little ones. So let’s do that today.
Do you like cheese? What kind of cheese do you like? Where do you buy it? How do you eat it? Are you lactose intolerant?! Have you ever MADE cheese? Do you have the best cheese recipe in the world? Should you have cheese on Spaghetti Marinara? Is brie better than camembert? What’s the best cheese for cheese-on-toast?
When I was growing up, my grandmother (her name was Icky!) made a thing called ‘Cheese Spread’. Unlike the weird Kraft one (sorry if you love that!) it was a mixture of cheese, tomato sauce, bbq sauce and curry powder all mixed up and grilled on white bread. It was the most delicious thing EVER and I used to live on it during the school holidays, munching into it as I stared out the window of our shack watching the boats loll in and out on the little bay below.
Later, my mum would introduce me to Cheese Fondue. I think she may have been wearing a green lycra disco dress at the time and she most certainly taught me that if you dropped your kabana in the pot of cheesy melt you had to kiss the nearest boy. My poor brother. He was forever getting the old cheesy smackeroo on fondue night. This did not bode well for my future either. Dropping kabana is not really the signal for puckering up, I later found out.
Now, I love Meredith Goats Cheese and that Fancy French Brie. What is it called? *googles* It’s called Fromager D’Affinois. These cheeses are very pricey and will make you very fat if you eat them all the time. I try not to eat them all the time. I don’t want to be broke and cheesy plump. But I do love them a very large in-moderation lot!
Chat over the fence with me! Tell me what you love about cheese? How is it for you? Cheese, I mean!
