Monday: Newsy Snacks For Busy People
Allison Cooke: Have you heard about 19 year old Allison Cooke? She won $1.7 million in the Boystown lottery seven months ago and, apart from settling a couple of debts, she hasn’t spent a cent of it! One of four kids from a single parent family, Allison’s mum instilled such good money smarts in her kids that her daughter’s putting the money aside to pave a secure future for herself, instead of buying STUFF! Read on here.
Twitter: Well. Apparently it is HUGE news that Twitter went down for about an hour on Thursday. The Twitter peeps gravely apologised and were miffed at their above 99% reliability figure is now (slightly) marred. I must admit I did not even notice. Did you notice? Read on here.
Music Piracy: When Emily White, an intern at the US National Public Radio (NPR) wrote a blog post admitting that she had only bought 15 CDS in her life and had never paid for any other music (despite being a DJ!!!) the floodgates opened for all kinds of commentary. THIS letter, a response to Emily’s post, is one of the best pieces you will ever read about ‘free’ music and piracy.
Twitter Trolls: Underbelly actor Firass Dirani has apologised (in a manner) for tweets he made last week, when he declared Delta Goodrem should be drowned. It was not so long ago that Anthony Callea tweeted nastily at Kate Miller-Heidke (Callea is a serial Twitter grump, especially when The Voice was on!) I’m wondering if public figures might perhaps refrain from trolling others on Twitter, thus setting a good example to their followers and helping to enforce a nicer code of conduct in those 147 characters? Hm. More here. Shoosh to Firass and Anthony and those who follow suit.
