Living together: In this crazy age of housing un-affordbility, shared family households are emerging as one way to beat the high cost of living (somewhere!) According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, between 2006 and 2011 the number of Australian households with three or more families increased from 29,649 to 48,507, a rise of 64 per cent. 3,495 of these households in 2011 were unrelated families living together. This makes sense, and is really great in terms of building community, but I wonder how these shared households work. Does it make things easier or more difficult? Do you know anyone who lives with other families? More here.
Alan Jones: Broadcasting big-mouth Mr Jones has lost his sponsored Mercedes Benz, after Mercedes vowed never to support 2GB or Alan Jones again. ”We want the car back, the deal is cancelled, it is over,” Mercedes-Benz’s corporate communications manager, David McCarthy, said. Wow. What a hard-line to take. Way to go MB! More here. News.com.au report that businesses who had ads on Mr Jones show were inundated with phone calls and emails, urging them to drop the Jones show from their ad schedule. Macquarie Radio Network executive chairman Russell Tate, revealed that advertisers were bombarded with thousands of threatening emails and calls last week, which had crashed their computer and phone systems. More here.
Julian Assange: Back in 2010, Julia Gillard spoke on the radio stating that Julian Assange had broken the law when he released hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables via Wikileaks. Mr Assange is now investigating his legal options and aims to sue Ms Gillard over this statement. ”The effects of this statement are ongoing and they directly affect the financial viability of Wikileaks,” Mr Assange said. “We are considering suing for defamation so I have hired lawyers in Sydney.” Read more here.
