Alan Jones: Hm. How rude. Alan Jones has been caught out making a speech to the Young Liberals dinner where he said that PM Julia Gillard’s father, John Gillard (who passed away a couple of weeks ago) had died of shame because his daughter lies every time she speaks in Parliament.  Today sponsors are considering pulling out of Mr Jones 2GB show after receiving thousands of angry emails from outraged Australians.  An online petition has attracted over 8000 signatures too. This is totally unacceptable and is just the latest in a long line of nastiness from Mr Jones.  Read on here.  Apparently Ms Gillard is refusing to take Mr Jone’s phone calls.

Volunteering: A new study has found that people who participate in volunteer work are happier and healthier than those who work in paid positions.  Dr Stephen Post, from Stony Brook University in New York, said volunteering produced health benefits because it provided meaningful activities, made people feel like they mattered and helped them adjust to change. Jill Meagher: An estimated 30 000 people marched along Sydney Road, Brunswick yesterday in memory of Jill Meagher.  This followed Friday night’s candlelight vigil at a local church.  Later Jill’s mum and dad visited the Duchess Boutique and thanked the owner (whose CCTV footage helped in the arrest of the accused Adrian Bayley), the public and the media for their support.  Did you go?  More about Jill’s march here.
