Monday: Newsy Snacks For Busy People

PM Gillard: The latest Newspoll results have Prime Minister Gillard a whopping 14 points ahead of Tony Abbott as our preferred Prime Minister.  One wonders if Tony Abbott’s aggressive gaffes of late, coupled with Julia Gillard’s (very relatable) reaction to the sad death of her father might have something to do with the PMs boost in support.  In the last fortnight support for the PM grew from 39 per cent to 46 per cent, while Mr Abbott’s fell from 38 per cent to 32 per cent.  More at the ABC.

Kate Middleton: It’s been revealed that there are over 200 photos of topless Kate doing the rounds, making the peepy photographer potentially very wealthy and sending the Royal Family into a litigious frenzy. It’s said that lawyers for the Royals will be in court today to fight their publication. Poor Kate. But still, as invasive as this is, it really goes a long way towards normalising the Royals and in the long run I think that’s a good thing. (Refer to Dirty Harry scandal!)  Read on here.

Smurfs: Okay. This story is not really about Smurfs. It’s about the ‘blueberries’ which the new Mars Rover ‘Opportunity’ has found on Mars. I can’t help but think that the blueberry gathering Smurfs would be totally into this. The Mars blueberries are actually outcrops of tiny, spherical rocks, but it does lead me to wonder if there’s life on Mars. And if that life is Smurfs?  More here. Seriously.
