One Direction : When one of the members of touring boy band One Direction took a shine to Nova radio receptionist Anna Crotti, some of the band’s young lady fans tracked her down on Facebook and began sending her hate messages. The whole scenario was played out on live radio, and when a member of One Direction’s entourage presented band member Zayn with Anna’s phone number it all became too much, apparently, and warranted threats and nasty barbs being aimed at poor Anna. Read more at News.com.au. (That’s just cray cray, girls. Don’t do that!) Fully expecting Anna to pop up as a host on ‘Postcards’ now. This is probably her big break?!
Stussy : The dorks at Stussy are following Mossimo’s Facebook peep show lead with their Strip For Likes Facebook campaign. Sheesh. This stuff is stupid. Stussy used to be such a cool little indie skater label. What the heck happened? One World, One Love, One Way Ticket to Dumbsville. Read more at Huffington Post.
Golden Girls Bea Arthur : Despite denying it when she was alive, it’s been confirmed that Bea Arthur served in the US marines. She served for 30 months moving swiftly from the entry level typists job all the way up to Staff Sergeant. Time Magazine has more on one of my favourite feisty dames.
Facebook and Instagram (again) : This report raises concerns about Facebook buying Instagram so that they may piece together a more detailed profile of who you are and what you do, via the photos you’ve Instagrammed. Hm. Techsavvy’s Scott Steinberg says ”…users have to realise that on social networking sites, there’s someone looking over your shoulder at any given time.’ The report discusses the possibility that Facebook may use your photos to locate you and may also be scanning them to match their ads more successfully to your lifestyle. What I think is, if you are concerned about this, don’t put your photos on Facebook. If you don’t want to share your photos with social networks, don’t put them on social networks. Revert to good old fashioned email. Print them out and make a cute album or postcard. Tuck them in an envelope and mail them to your friends. Create some new photo sharing habits and make moves to protect your privacy, if you have concerns about the FB/Instagram merge. (And take steps now to remove any images you don’t want to share from your Instagram account.)
Mel Gibson : I really don’t know what to make of this. Screenwriter Joe Eszterhas really does not like Mel Gibson at all. (I think I don’t like him either, but I have not met him so I shouldn’t be too judgey.) The two are embroiled in a spat about a film that they were to make together. Eszterhas has written a letter to Mel, detailing more than ten reasons he will hate him and said letter is now splashed over newspapers across the planet. The accusations in the letter are not pretty, but Mel is not pretty either (any more). What the heck happened to Mel? What are your thoughts on an angry ranty letter being held up as an accurate account of events? Do you still write letters?! Read more at news.com.au if you dare.
