Tell me where you want to go!

If I gave you the keys to my (rad) car, a nicely packed suitcase, a week off and my credit card, where would you road trip to? Do you have a favourite place you love to visit? Or is there somewhere you’ve been meaning to check out?  If you’ve got carte blanche to drive anywhere you like, where is that place?

For me, it’s hard to choose. Maybe it’s like that for you too. I am Melbourne based, and kids and pets mean I don’t want to venture TOO far from home, lest disaster rain down.  With that in mind, here are my favourite places to trip to. These are the places where memories have been made, people! The places that are etched into our families psyche and stamped FUN TIMES!

1. Sandy Point

2. Wilson’s Promontory

3. Walkerville

These are our favourite places for all kinds of reasons. We’ve had lovely times there. Evenings of cards, board games, reading aloud or nicely wrangling wombats.  Mornings of bottomless cups of freshly brewed coffee, egg and bacon sandwiches and beachy views.  Mid-morning fry ups. Cold feet on hot sand.  Fish and chips and salty lips.  Days filled with beachy walks, ice clinking in tumblers, endless rounds of sandwiches and cricket on crunchy grass or wet sand.  Piles of thongs outside the back door/tent door.  Leisurely icy poles. Banana lounges casting shadows on the deck. Fly slapping, towel flapping, shore lapping good times.

How about you? Where do you love to go? What’s your favourite road trip destination?

x Pip

Down through Deniliquin to Echuca. Spend a few days there looking around the area, then follow the Murray to Mildura & spend a few days there. Visit Mungo (again!!!!). Drive to Renmark & spend a few days there (have I run out of time yet?). Across to Quorn & look around the Flinders. Down to Adelaide then to Victor Harbour & go across to Kangaroo Island. Once finished there, follow the coast to Melbourne (part of The Great Ocean Road, but stick TO the coast wherever possible). Then follow the coast back to Sydney. I’ve done this same trip except the Quorn leg & Kangaroo Island, three times & NEVER tire of the scenery. It’s the BEST part of Australia.

Bring on summer! I hesitate to tell you my all time fave beaches … 6 hr drive to the east of Victoria, quiet and daggy township and easy days away from the bustle of our city lives. No cafes, no bookstores, just whatever supplies we bring with us. Also love a day trip to Ocean Grove with the throngs or Barwon Heads, always good for a little break and nice coffee and hot chips and juices and ice creams and pizzas, then a quiet drive home over the Westgate.
