Vintage suitcases are the darling of the decorating set, fetching top dollar at op shops and markets and creating roadside pandemonium as vintage lovers tussle with piles of hard rubbish in search of their useful prize.
Vintage suitcases are not only good for putting things in, they are good for putting things on or under or next to, too. Who would have thought a bashed up suitcase lined with old paper and bearing someone’s name written in wobbly hand on the inside of the lid would become quite so coveted, held up for its musty smell and clattery locks? I would. I have about ten vintage suitcases all stacked in a pile. They look much nicer than archive boxes and cutely stow all those things I don’t want to have out, but I don’t want to throw out, either.
Of course, the suitcase has been elevated to something way more special than a storage facility (like at my house). Clever types from around the globe have transformed these mothballed beauties into far more stylish versions of themselves.
It’s everybody’s favourite thing… a suitcase makeover. And you are invited to the ‘after’ party.
