Big Brother: Fans of Big Brother were shocked yesterday when it was revealed that Josh Moore’s brother had passed away suddenly and that Josh had left the show to grieve with his family.  Toby Moore was just 32 when he died and it’s obviously devastated the family.  You can read more here and there’s a link where you can pass on your condolences.  So sad.

Beauty: You know, it’s really upsetting the lengths people will go to in the name of beauty.  A Hong Kong beauty salon offering a treatment involving blood transfusions has killed one woman and hospitalised 3 others, all in the name of beauty.  The procedure involves the “concentration and processing” of blood by a lab before it is re-injected into the person it was drawn from, the Hong Kong government said.  All four women were found to have an antibiotic resistant bacteria in their system, following the unregulated transfusions.  Read more here.

Child Marriage: Every three seconds, a girl under the age of 18 is married off. I didn’t know that.  Huffington Post is running this piece by Christy Turlington Burns and Monique Villa, raising awareness about child marriage and celebrating International Day of the Girl Child.  Families seeking a bridal fee pull their girls out of school and marry them off to men 2, 3 or 4 times their age in a bid for financial security.  Of course, this just perpetuates a cycle of misery as girls are mistreated or worse by their new husbands and their families.  Read more here.
