Mr Whippi/Mr Whippy:
George Colombaris is being sued by Mr Whippy owner Stan Gordon, for using the term ‘Mr Whippi’ to describe a dessert he serves at his Kew restaurant St Katherine’s.  Mr Gordon is seeking to protect his brand and will see Mr Colombaris in the High Court, apparently.  Get the full story here.

Boobs:  Apparently Jessica Simpson is having trouble losing her post-baby weight, because her boobs are stopping her from running. Oh golly. Maybe she just wants to spend time with her baby and not obsess over exercise so early in the piece? I think there is way too much pressure for ladies to get back in shape postpartum.  What do you think?

American Airlines: Wow. American Airlines saw fit to stop a family flying with their 16 year old son from taking their (paid for) first class seats, because the decided the Down Syndrome teen was a flight risk. How crazy!  Bede Vanderhorst had flown with his family many times before, but his parents decided to surprise him with a first class treat.   The family was escorted to the final row of coach class and not refunded the difference in fares.  Read on at Huff Post.

I read yesterday that Jessica will ” reveal” her post baby body in some mag… I think it’s really sad that so much focus is put in how quickly you can drop the kgs instead of just chilling out & enjoying your bubba. Silly Jess shouldn’t have signed up to weight watchers until she felt ready, not while she was still pregnant!!!

That American Airlines story really makes me mad! I have a brother with Down Syndrome, and something similar happened to him with an Australian Airline. He was flying with my parents and they had seats in the emergency row, the crew decided that they shouldn’t sit there because in the event of an emergency, my brother may not be able to operate the emergency exit door, which is fair enough. But instead of quietly explaining this to my parents and moving them to different seats (which they would have happily done – my parents are not the type to make a fuss), the staff made big song and dance about it and really embarrassed my family. And like the boy in the American Airlines story, my brother is quiet, good natured and cooperative.

Then after my family had moved seats, when the staff came by to offer food and drinks to the passengers, they offered them to everyone but my brother, didn’t talk to him, didn’t ask him if he would like anything, didn’t ask my parents if he would like anything, just ignored him. My parents had to stop the staff and ask my brother if he wanted anything.

It is a sad reality that people with disabilities (both physical and intellectual), through fear or ignorance, are often not treated like people, they are treated as if they are troublesome, as if they are not worth as much as anyone else, as if they are stupid or as if they don’t exist. When really, often people who get to know them find something really rare and special.
