SAD news today, as we learn Whitney Houston has died at the age of 48.

Publicist Kristen Foster has confirmed the singer has died, but the cause and location of her death are still unclear.

The former queen of pop and multiple Grammy winner was one of the world’s best selling artists during the 1980s and 1990s, with mega hits “I Will Always Love You”, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” and “Saving All My Love For You”.

Her success carried over from the studio to the big screen in 1992 movie The Bodyguard, in which she starred opposite Kevin Costner. Houston’s soundtrack for the movie went on to become the biggest selling movie soundtrack of all time.

By the end of her career, drug use took its toll as her record sales plummeted and her voice became raspy and hoarse.

Houston’s last Australian tour in 2010 was not well received by fans, with many describing the singer as “croaky” and “disoriented” during her performances.

What were you doing when you heard the news? What’s your favourite Whitney song? Tell us in the comments.

Very sad news. I have been adding many old albums to my itunes this weekend. So had come across a few Whitney songs that took me back to when I was a kid. Wanna dance with somebody was one of the first Whitney songs I ever heard and I still love it.

This is one of those announcement you knew were coming, but still feel really shocked when you hear it.  I have just always loved I will always love you – I have fond memories of singing it at the top of my lungs in the shower until my mum had to scream at me to shut up coz the neighbours were being bothered by it! lol

Totally expected… When you snort cocaine by the bucket full, guzzle alcohol like water and pop prescription meds that make you rattle when you walk, you’re eventually going to die… That said RIP and I hope her daughter learns from her parents selfish mistakes. You should never have kids if their lives aren’t more important than your own…

I have to say not unexpected, but so sad.  She must have been deeply unhappy inside to want to escape all the time?  ‘ I will always love you’  still gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it.  Now it will probably make me cry  :-(

Unfortunately it is not a surprise but it seems such a waste a life and children that will grow up without their mum.
