Low-Wage Families: The latest Foodbank End Hunger Report has found that around 2 million families in Australia do not achieve the United Nations World Food Summit definition of food security for “sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life”.  It’s low wage earners that need the most help, and apparently they are seeking food parcels more than the unemployed or single parent families.  Are these the families that don’t qualify for welfare payments?  Something must be done.  More here.

My Lovely Parent: Naw.  My Lovely Parent is a website where (grown up) kids can help their twilighty parents find true love.  It’s a dating site with a difference, heavy on the ‘My mum is kind, funny and smart’ and lighter on the ‘open-minded wrinkly seeks same’. Phyllis Diller: One of my Nan’s faves, Phyllis Diller has died, aged 95.  She was one of those hilarious people who laughed at her own jokes, a ground-breaking female stand up pioneer.  Read more about her life here.

Mars: Wow. This is the rock chosen by NASA to be lasered THIRTY TIMES by the Mars Rover ‘Curiosity’. Poor rock.  Scientists are hoping to discover if you can blast a hole in martian rocks.  In other ‘Curiosity’ news, Lego may make a model of the curious robot craft after 10 000 Lego lovers voted in its favour.
