The personality of style: The Oscars 2012 red carpet

I’m a little bit miffed at Kev and Julia today. I mean really. Could they have chosen any other morning to have their little public tiff? It’s Oscars morning people and there is rarely any fun fashion coming out of Canberra. No there is not.

It’s a different story over in Hollywood today. The who’s who of movie land have frocked (and suited) up.

Now when I watch these red carpet events, I’m not about the picky picky.

I’m about celebrating those stars who are not afraid to let their personality come out in their red carpet style. I’m about celebrating those who dress to inspire, whether that’s for their body shape, their age or their quirkiness.

This year that list includes: Glenn Close, Octavia Spencer, Michelle Williams, Rooney Mara, Viola Davis, Jane Seymore, Milla Jovovich and Rose Byrne.

The hot hair trend was “old Hollywood glamour” and bright, jeweled colours stood out but white was all right on the night! Bling was in abundance but worn simply. Not fighting the frock for attention. Tiny clutches were the the bags of choice (celebs can do this because they have “people” to carry their stuff).

Here are my fave red carpet looks from the Oscars 2012. What was your pick?

Looks like white is a popular colour this season!

Was done to perfection – and not bridal at all. Loved it.

What’s not to love about Emma Stone?

I know – just watched her presenting at the Oscars too. Love her style – inside and out!

She looks amazing Briana … and she’s wearing the dress, not the other way round. It’s her!

I think my favourite would be Emma Stone, she looks amazing! I’m always pretty impressed by Rose Byrne, she often goes for something ‘a little different’, but pulls it off well. I think Melissa McCarthy looked gorgeous! As a plus size lady myself, I know how difficult it can be to find something that is ‘fashionable’ but still flattering.

Totally agree. LOVED Melissa’s gown – those sheer silk chiffon sleeves over the arms were genius and sexy – she would have felt a million bucks!

Rooney and Mila for me. Just gorgeous.

White but not bridal – I loved them!

I had 8 favourites from the red carpet. The ones I can see that we have in common are Michelle Williams, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose Byrne and Milla Jovovich.

I agree with you – I admire the stars who dress for themselves and their personality rather than just putting on the latest gown that has sashayed down the runway in Paris which does nothing to showcase them.

Gwyneth, I think that she has taken simple elegance and put her name all over it, she looks amazing.

It’s her signature look – and that’s what I love most – when anyone strays to far from their look, it goes wonky. Gwyneth gets it right 98% of the time.
