I have always been a technology lover. Always. I blame my family. Because that’s what you do, isn’t it? Blame them for all your issues?

Our family are early gadget adopters from way back.

I remember our first colour TV. The day the VHS machine arrived. And the day the vinyl collection got swapped for shiny circular discs.

In fact, the only techie thing we were late adopting was actually owning a telephone. And Gen Ys, I’m not talking about those new-fangled, carry-in-your-pocket, thing-a-ma-jigs. No. I’m talking about the old school plug-in-the-wall-and-dial-up-phone variety. We actually didn’t have one in our house until I was about 11 or 12. If someone wanted to contact us, they phoned my aunty across the road and she wrote down the message. Which is how I remember the day my cousin was born. He weighed in at a whopping 12lbs 8oz. You can imagine how much THAT piece of notepaper was handed around.

Anyways, this is not a post about big babies. It’s about my issues, remember?

So, this early childhood education into the excitement of new gadgety things as stuck.

And now that I’m living smack bang in the middle of the gadget age, I’ve become aware that there’s an even greater upside to embracing new technology: accessories. Specifically more of them in my life.

I coveted owning an iPad for about a year till I jumped in with the iPad2 last year (iPad3 is due out next month … oh, how I hate being superseded!) and then I looked around hoping to be blown away by the covers and accessories on offer for my latest, don’t-leave-home-without-it toy.

But nothing really grabbed me, so my iPad has not been receiving any fancy schmancy accessory love – just the basics. But I think that’s about to change.

Take a look at these babies … come to your geeky mama … and oh, look, there’s one for every day of the week.

I know it is Oroton but $245, you have to be kidding. I would willingly pay for the others but that is a bit OTT. Get it on Ebay for 30% off, I say.

I think it’s ok – it’s like a handbag ;) and it’s Oroton’s pricing. The prices on the Prada and DVF ones scared me more!

I have an iPad2, I love it. I have the magnetic cover to protect the screen and it makes a great stand to watch movies and type etc. I got a really great red felt cover from Rib and Hull on Etsy here http://www.etsy.com/listing/58335386/ipad-sleeve. I love it!

Oh, Clare … I do love that ipad sleeve! I too have the magnetic cover to protect the screen and yes, it’s a great stand.

I bought an Ipad in Dec2010, then bought hubby the Ipad 2 for father’s day as he was always borrowing mine with its flight apps when he went flying, then I bought myself an Ipad 2 as well (my kids get my cast offs!)
I have to say I buy most of my handbags to fit it (except evening bags! and have even had one made on etsy. The first Ipad I had I put it in a cygnet case. Patent bright red, Folio style.
On this one, I have the Apple red leather magnetic cover, an SGP crystal screen protector which is fantastic protection, and an SGP ‘Griff’ red leather clip on back. I then slip these into a zip up case- made of that wet suit material inside my handbag( it never gets zipped up!) The kids have their’s in folio cases, hubby has the same set up as mine except in black and he puts his inside a case that has bubbles all over it, his often is just tossed onto the dash of the landcruiser! No man bag there!!!!
I love this little tool and would hate anything to happen to it, I use it all the time at home and work(school) and am often seen teaching with it in my hands sending site links to kids via email.
Protection is the key to them lasting -so I can hand it on to the kidlets, when the new one comes out! lol!

We have the same apple red magnetic cover! I do need those other protectors though. Think mine might go to my husband when the 3 comes out ;)

I have a snap on blue tooth keypad that I *love* and I carry my iPad 2 in a functional satchel. I used to use a Dharma Door book sack that looked funky
    but didn’t offer much protection.

Oh, I like your geek chic style Alison. Like it a lot.

  • Elisha Deegan

I think I might have to buy and iPad just so I can get that Nacybird sleeve!!!

      I’m fine with that logic!

I got an Ipad for christmas and I’m still learning how to use it (unlike Nikki, I am a veerrryyy slow adopter of anything). I just have the magnetic thingy in blue but I do worry about it being protected so I might hunt down that hard case (number 5). And thanks Nikki and all you other bloggers for inspiring me to finally embrace technology – I am actually hoping my old nokia phone will die a terrible death so I can get an Iphone to match my iPad. Is that wrong???

    • http://www.stylingyou.com.au Nikki Parkinson

No, that is NOT wrong … that’s a good thing. And with protecting the back of the iPad, see Jodie’s comment above – she suggests: SGP ‘Griff’ red leather clip on back. Just Google it to see what she means. x
