A wee while ago some of the JustBees (including Ms Jodie!) were chatting about fashion on Facebook.  We were talking about Plus Size fashion, to be exact, and how it’s often more likely that you’ll find the freaking Holy Grail than a cute and cool piece about fashion for women over size 14. I am sure you are going to prove me wrong. I am sure you are going to write in and tell me about all the great magazines and blogs that feature plus size fashions for rad ladies.  I want you to do that. Comment below.  It will help other ladies find good things to wear.

In the mean time, while you are waiting for those tips, I bring you Cute Looks For Rad Ladies the Plus Size Edition. I’m going to publish this as a regular feature, because it really irks me that people think that once women are a tick over size 14 they must want to dress like a more bountiful version of Stevie Nicks after she’s been let loose in a chiffon factory. I mean really. They probably don’t, right?  I am guessing they don’t want to dress in t-shirt fabric every day, either. Or just in black.  Or in a constant state of A-Line.  I am here to help.

Here are my cute looks for plus size lasses.  Yay!  I think you’re gonna love ‘em. (Click the images to shop these items.)

(If you wanted the chiffon kinda thing, head over to FloatyFloaty.com or some such site and excuse me for wasting your time.)

xx Pip

Of course, we are not all about the frocks. Nope. You might need some new shoes or other cute bits and pieces too, right!?!

1 Shoes by Swedish Hasbeens
2. Neon & Neutral Clutch by Clare Vivier
3. Handmade Beaded Necklace by Emily Green

Don’t forget to take our survey, so we can bring you more of the things you want to read about (even if it IS chiffon!)

My pleasure, lovely! So many nice dresses, no?!

Great that this will be a regular feature,  and I hope that other items on fashion on JustB will have plus size items alongside straight sizes.  (I should explain my background because of the debate the other day.  I’ve been a plus size fashion advocate for well over a decade and had a fairly popular group with 2500+ members worldwide, and a fashion directory of plus size stores.  I don’t keep the links updated anymore, but if you do want more specific suggestions, just ask!)

Along with these brands, I also wear a lot of items from TS14+ (http://www.ts14plus.com.au) – great layering gear, very good quality for price.

Oh great! I will include them next time! Thank you for the tip, Jodie. And thank you for giving me the prod to Plus Size Rad Lady! I appreciate it!

Hi Jodie … just piping up here … my post last week included two items up to size 20 (which is plus size) and on my personal blog the same day up to size 26.

I feel it’s necessary to include a whole size range because size 6 women also feel excluded as well. And the majority of Australian women sit somewhere in the 10-16 range.

I sit just at the start of what’s considered plus-size by the fashion industry : 14-16. It’s not easy here either but it’s a hell of a lot better than when I was this size at school or in my early 20s.

We’re all women … we all deserve to be able to dress for our shape.
That’s why I’ve made it my mission in my current role to make every person feel good about themselves – and I’ve worked with size 6-32 – all have walked away with a spark in their eyes that wasn’t there before.

I’m sorry that you felt excluded from last week’s post – it’s never my aim.

As a fellow 14/16 sized woman I love your posts Nikki as they always provide me with inspiration, even when I am carrying a lot more weight. I love the way you style for woman with booties and boobs. Thanks x

There are a lot of fantastic online business’s in Australia including my own http://www.missmel.com.au that brings great fashion for lots of sizes with a definite curvy girl focus.  Would be great to see us included. I’d be happy to assist.
Great range of new retro, rockabilly items coming online too for our 14+.
    Cheers, Mel

Oh great! Thank you for the tip!  I have included a couple of AU suppliers, but it was VERY hard to find cute frocks for size 14 to 24. ANY tips would be so very appreciated!

Could you make sure that in the future that the fashions and clothes that you have in an article such as this one that the materials used are more natural… I’ve had the unfortunate experience a few times that clothes made of polyester/nylon = a very smelly me!

    • http://www.justbaustralia.com.au/ Pip @ JustB

I used to have this problem too! I started using Mitchum AntiPerspirant and now I smell super nice!

  • Miss Prudence

I am totally giggly with the “constant state of A line” – you make me laugh sooo much!!! I makes me feel so embarrassed that my size is considered plus size – then it makes me angry, i don’t think 14 is whopper material, nor size 16…ever notice you NEVER find 14 or 16 on the sales rack? No cos it goes too fast!
Thanks for this post,  it really contributes to me thinking better about my size, it gives a stronger validity . BTW the holy grail is here at my home, picked it up in January when looking for a frock for a wedding…still looking!LOL
