I was a child of the 70s. I ate casserole and rice just about every night of my life. I think it must have been an unwritten rule that weekday meals had to be served from the crockpot. When I moved out of home I bought myself a George Forman grill and vowed that I would never own a slow cooker.
Of course, I came to realise that slow cooking is the best way to get great flavour (without a lot of fuss) and I soon purchased my own updated version of the crockpot that had been so well loved by my mother. All of these recipes we’ve rounded up look absolutely delicious (and not a bit like those slow cooked meals of my childhood).
Slow cooking is brilliant for people (like me) who peak in the morning. I get up early and I’m full of beans. My husband says that it’s all down hill after 9am at our place! So, slow cooking is perfect for me. I can bung everything in the cooker in the morning and the deliciously flavoursome meal is ready to go come 6pm.
PS: As a hangover from the cupboard casseroles of my childhood I’m proud to say I’ve not weakened on my vow to NEVER cook any meat dish containing pineapple.
Do you have a slow cooker? Do you LOVE it? Do you cook pineapple in it?
