You know that we are champions of quinoa, right? We’re totally into it for lots of reasons. It’s protein packed. It’s a great gluten-free alternative. It gives you a satisfying ‘hit’ without making you feel bloated or tired. AND it’s just super healthy all ’round.

There are various types of quinoa, but white, red and black are most readily available in Australia.   Quinoa is a seed, not a grain.   Remember to rinse it before you cook it.

You can buy the whole quinoa seeds or the flakes (which are good for quinoa porridge!) The whole seed is best for savoury dishes and salads, and it’s super useful because you can add it to soups or stews to help thicken things up and add a protein punch.

If you are quinoa-ing for a salad most recipes will help you along with that.  If you are stuck here’s a simple ‘how to cook quinoa’ go-to:

In a saucepan:  simmer one cup of rinsed quinoa plus 2 cups of water/stock simmer (covered is good!) over a low heat for 10 to 15 minutes until the quinoa is tender/translucent.

Are you a fan of quinoa? Or are you just stepping up to the plate?!
