There is nothing that excites me more than a big bowl full of something healthy or comforting and delicious. Preferably all three. I think that we’re all pretty super conscious about putting healthy food into our bodies almost daily, and I know that a lot of us are trying to buy local or organic, perhaps even tripping along to the Farmer’s Market to get the best of the crunchy and green. (Maybe to make the Fattoush Salad : above : from My New Roots)
At my house, we pick up a box of organic vegetables chosen by our local environmental farm (it costs between $35 and $49) and then we top up with bits and pieces from the market (or our local shops.) We try not to buy too much from the supermarket so that we can plough (!) our money back into local small businesses. You can find out how to buy fresh, sustainable, more delicious food at The Sustainable Table.
The other good thing about buying from the market or buying organic is that the food is often MUCH fresher and it tastes HEAPS better. Things are greener, crisper, sweeter, juicier. And they’re the perfect match for super healthy salads like these :
