I was a HUGE fan of Molly Ringwald when I was growing up. She wasn’t like the other girls in the movies. She wasn’t blonde or busty or bountiful with brunette curls. She was freckly and red-headed and toothy and awkward.  She was an adorable geek, semi-trying to fit herself into the mold of a teenage movie star, but actually being MUCH more interesting and beautiful as herself.

Molly in The Breakfast Club was a game changer for me. Who knew about the long skirt and boots thing? Molly did. Who knew about the pouty lips and off the shoulder affectation. Molly did.  In Pretty In Pink, Molly showed us how to make a daggy dress into a deconstructed masterpiece for Prom.  In Sixteen Candles, Molly showed us that the geeky gal CAN get the hot guy and also that the geeky guy CAN get the undies. Go figure.

Later, Molly grew up and wrote books about how to be pretty, got married two times and had two twins.  She now stars in The Secret Life Of The American Teenager. Which is kinda funny considering her teenage life was played out very publicly.

Here’s our gallery of  The Way She Wore. It’s a tribute to the fabulous, adorable, pouty, geek that is Molly Ringwald.

Are you a Molly Ringwald fan? Do you have a favourite Molly flick? Is The Breakfast Club one of the greatest films of all time?!

I totally love Molly!! And all her movies and her co stars! Those movies were the best. Shame there isnt anything quite like that now…. How could there be without Molly in them? Thanks Pip for reminding us how fabulous she was then.

I love her! She was my movie idol in my teenage years. I even went in the same dress she wore to her prom in Pretty in Pink. I got a lady to make a replica for me. I wore it to my year 12 ball. I had no idea it was going to be one of the most hated dresses of all time!! Which probably explains why I went dateless. I didn’t care. I had a great time dancing with all the school duckies – fellow dateless friends.

    A girl before her time!

Love her…loved her movies.  For nerdy girls like me (not that I saw her as nerdy, just not the stereotype), she was a breath of fresh air!
