Miss Piggy, I love what you’ve become

Let me paint a picture of my childhood.

I grew up (mostly) in a small country town in regional Queensland. I’m the eldest child. Of two brothers.

We made our own fun. Mostly that fun was at my expense. If a game of cricket was being planned, I’d be the fielder. If it were hockey, I’d be in the goals. You get the kind, loving, brother-sisterly picture?

To counteract such “kindness”, I may have had cause to throw my weight around … I may have had a reputation within my family of being, somewhat … bossy.

So, when The Muppets burst on to the TV screen in the ’80s, you can guess which character my *beautiful* brothers bestowed on me.

Yep, even the threat of the odd HI-YA headed their way was not enough for them to stop with the name calling.

But do you know what?

Having seen the 2012 version of Miss Piggy, I’ll take that label. Thank-you very much.

Yes, last week I dragged my six-year-old along to see the new Muppets movie (he got into it by the end but in the beginning there seemed to be way more for the first generation of Muppets fans) and re-kindled a previously dormant girl-crush on Miss Piggy.

Here’s why the 2012 Miss Piggy rocks my world:

1. She’s now works in Paris … as the plus-size editor at Vogue!

2. She wears Chanel but still eats glazed donuts.

3. She has a rockin’ platinum bob hair do.

4. She’s so comfortable in her own skin that she insists on re-creating the Dirty Dancing routine with Pepe the King Prawn.

5. She’s super confident enough to tell a black-skivvy-wearing Kermit how it is.

6. And she’s not afraid to insert the odd HI-YA where appropriate.

Now, more than ever, I’m convinced the world could do with a few more Miss Piggy’s running the show and I, for one, am happy to emulate the character of my childhood taunts.

What about you? Have you seen The 2012 Muppets yet? Do you LOVE Miss Piggy? Or perhaps you’re more Animal or Fozzie Bear? Spill, who was your favourite Muppets character?

Go see it! Was more for adults who knew muppets as kids, than the kids now. x
