How are you and the Olympics? Do you have fond memories of watching events alongside family and friends? Maybe it was recently and you were dressed stylishly and all grown up.  Or maybe it was some time ago and you were wearing a Saddle Club sweatshirt and legging with hearts on them?  Or maybe it was even further back? Were you wearing a Life. Be In It. Tee? Or somewhere in the middle, with a Duran Duran tee sporting an iron-on Simon Le Bon?  Yes?

The Olympics are certainly not what they once were.  Gone are the clunky, charming, scoop-shorted, mulleted athletes of old, replaced instead by the finely tuned machines/superstars of today.

And let’s talk Olympic merchandise.  Gone are the terry towelling bucket hats with the rings on the front.  Gone are the commemorative dachshunds and the Olympic sasquatches.  Gone are the Olympic boomerangs, snow domes and beer cans.  (Well, some of those things might actually resurface, I think?!)

Now, when we commemorate the Olympics, we do it stylishly, with the likes of Cath Kidston and Liberty as partners. The Olympics have gone chi-chi. It’s official.  You need to pack up your mullet and shelve your ringed boomerang.  Ya gotta get with the times.  Here’s how.

Do you have fond memories of the Olympics gone by?  Watching the gymnastics? Or the swimming? Or the diving?  Do tell!

xx Pip

I love the Olympics a lot. I think people sometimes are a bit jaded by them but I thinks that’s a little bit of the old tall poppy syndrome rearing its ugly head. The diving is probs one of my fave events. Gymnastics and cycling is good too. I can’t wait!
