I don’t like new toys much. Oh no. New toys are built to run out of steam. New toys are made of new materials in new colours for new babies. I don’t mind the new babies, but I kind of like the old toys which were built to last. I like the cute graphics, sweet colours and retro typography of the vintage kind.
Vintage toys are full of soul. They are wrapped up with the kind of nostalgia that speaks to me and reminds me of happy times as a wee girl. New toys will probably do that for a whole generation of kids, I think, but I’m going to fly the flag for the retro stuff, because that’s my era, I suppose.
Sometimes, new meets old, as enduring companies like Fisher Price cross generations. Founded way back yonkers in 1930 and creator of toys played with through EIGHT decades of childhood, Fisher Price is still making cute toys today (and reissuing some of the classics our Mums or Grandmas might have bought back in the day!)
Take a peek at our trip through vintage Fisher Price. Perhaps there is something you might like to gift to a kidlet you like? I’m thinking the Movie Camera and the Turntable are super awesome for kids who might be messing about on iPads or Wiis. And for weenier kids, the Fisher Price Farm can NOT be beaten (did you have one!?!)
If it’s a baby you are buying for, then a vintage music box from FP would be perfectly at home in the nursery, and a super cute way to be part of baby bedtimes.
I’m a huge fan of the A-Frame Doll House too, because I’ve always wanted to live in one of those A-Frame houses and that’s the closest I will ever get. Perhaps your favourite kidlet would be in to A-Frames, like me?!
Whichever it is, enjoy your Vintage Shopping Tour Fisher Price style, won’t you? AND do comment and tell me which is your favourite, or if you ever had any of these toys!
