Food: Ten Delicious Afternoon Tea Loaves

Hm. It’s chilly here. It’s the kind of weather where I want to sit on the couch and watch a box set of something compelling and drink tea and eat something nice. Perhaps a slice of banana bread or a bit of tea cake? Yes, those would do nicely.

Personally, I like an afternoon tea loaf, a sweet kind of bready cake, because it seem so seriously practical in its cake-iness.  There is none of the fluff and frippery of the usual kinds of cake. Instead, it’s a simple honest slice, no pretension, no frills, just goodness. Yum.

I think there’s a touch of the Enid Blyton’s about a loaf cake.  You can imagine these wrapped in a gingham cloth, tied with twine and bundled into a basket for some Bessie or Fanny to tote into the woods. Or maybe that’s just me.

Regardless of which, I am counting on the fact that you are an afternoon tea fan. I am counting on the fact that you’d like nothing better than a thick, crumby slice of banana bread or pear loaf.  I’m counting on the fact that you’d like to put your feet up and sip tea and snack on slices.  I know that’s a lot of pressure, but I bet you can handle it.

Are you a loaf fan? Do you fancy afternoon tea? If I came over to your house with a freshly baked bundt tucked under my arm and a tea cosy on my head, would you turn me away?!

xx Pip

I love this!!! I have a wonderful fruit slice I could throw in the oven with five minutes of your appearing at my door, and we could mumble our way through large warm crumbly slices, washed down with buckets of hot chocolate with lashings of cream. That do? :)

Welcome anytime now that my family are all finally non-contagious.
I am a queen of tea, even have a kettle with different boiling temps (a prize from a teahouse I frequent). As we are having a stay at home mid year holiday, I am going to bake my way through this list for all the visiting kids and mums. Your tea cosy and bundt would fit in just fine with all the raucous .
