Food: Ten Delicious Afternoon Tea Loaves
Hm. It’s chilly here. It’s the kind of weather where I want to sit on the couch and watch a box set of something compelling and drink tea and eat something nice. Perhaps a slice of banana bread or a bit of tea cake? Yes, those would do nicely.
Personally, I like an afternoon tea loaf, a sweet kind of bready cake, because it seem so seriously practical in its cake-iness. There is none of the fluff and frippery of the usual kinds of cake. Instead, it’s a simple honest slice, no pretension, no frills, just goodness. Yum.
I think there’s a touch of the Enid Blyton’s about a loaf cake. You can imagine these wrapped in a gingham cloth, tied with twine and bundled into a basket for some Bessie or Fanny to tote into the woods. Or maybe that’s just me.
Regardless of which, I am counting on the fact that you are an afternoon tea fan. I am counting on the fact that you’d like nothing better than a thick, crumby slice of banana bread or pear loaf. I’m counting on the fact that you’d like to put your feet up and sip tea and snack on slices. I know that’s a lot of pressure, but I bet you can handle it.
Are you a loaf fan? Do you fancy afternoon tea? If I came over to your house with a freshly baked bundt tucked under my arm and a tea cosy on my head, would you turn me away?!
