Food: Eleven Apple-y Things To Cook

How does it go with you and apples?

When I was growing up, I was totally in love with fresh apples straight-from-the-tree. I lived in Tasmania and there was roadside stall after roadside stall along the country roads.  The apples were crunchy, juicy and full of flavour, picked fresh and grown simply.

Then I grew up, and apples changed. They were often dry and powdery. They were spongey. They lacked all the apple-y things that I’d grown up loving. I was SHOCKED!

Granted, it’s mostly supermarket and cheap market apples that taste and feel like that. If you buy your apples direct from the farm gate, or from a reputable organic shop, they’ll surely be all about the aforementioned juice and crunch.  Of course they won’t be $2 a bag like the apples of my childhood, but often you really DO get what you pay for, and I’ll pay for flavour any day!

Do you like apples? Or are you more of a banana type?
