What’s in your handbag?

My husband says I have too many handbags.

Hummphh.

A girl can NEVER have too many.

He also says each of my handbags is an abyss. He says it’s scary to put his hand in to search for something. He fears what he might find.

This works in my favour (ie, keep out) except if I’m asking him to find my car keys … in the abyss.

What a woman carries around in her day bag can say a whole lot about the bag carrier. I remember in my formative years when I read Cosmo or Cleo and there seemed to always be a celebrity bag “spill”. I’d be in awe at the gorgeousness that was inside the bag, neatly laid out for all to see.

No scrunched up tissues, no baby wipes, no pens without lids, no tampons.

Of course it was all a lovely set up, designed to make us covet whatever that particular bag owner was coveting.

SO. Not. Real.

That’s why I loved last week peaking inside the bags of thousands of women around the world as part of Fat Mum Slim’s #janphotoaday photo challenge.

Day 13′s challenge was “In your bag”.

So, to keep it REAL, I got my six-year-old to take my current day bag from the back of my chair and empty its contents on the floor of our lounge room.

I straightened it all up to photograph it all clearly … but that was actually what was in my bag that day (see photo top left below).

No tampons (because I’d “lent” one to a friend the week before). No sunscreen (I ALWAYS carry sunscreen) because it was in the beach bag. And no snotty tissues as I hadn’t left the house yet.

Just too many lip products, makeup compact, an ageing wallet, coin purse, comb, phone, spritzer, keys, bandaid, paracetamol, pen and business cards.

What's in your handbag?

If you emptied your bag out on to your floor or desk right now, what would you find? Care to share the contents? Personal hygiene products and all? Do you carry lots around with you every day? Or are you a minimalist?  You can post a photo on our Facebook wall if you’d like?

PS. I’m also over at Styling You today sharing a funny video that I “star” in with five other rad Australian female bloggers … Sh*t Bloggers Say (little language warning though.

You need a flickr group so people can upload their pics…!

Mine: iPad. Ridiculously dag sun hat (which is actually so daggy it’s cool… language warning on the link: http://www.flickr.com/photos/raven78/6624196783/in/photostream) sunscreen, bills x 4, keep cup, keys, sinus spray meds, pencil case full of daily pills (anithistamines/nurofen etc…). My bag is a gorgeous shade of dark aqua.

I’ve only got two handbags – a big one for weekdays and a small one for weekends.

My working week handbag will always have:
Go Card (SE QLD public transport smartcard – even though I walk to work), phone, pen (but no paper…), wallet, work keys, personal keys, glasses case with whatever pair I don’t have on my face inside, glasses cleaning kit, iPod touch (depending on what I’m wearing this may be in my pocket), at the very least a snack of some sort, more likely lunch and morning and afternoon tea supplies.

I’ve often got a few library items in there too that I traffic from home to work and back again – I’m a librarian. My locker at work is chockers with bathroom stuff, lint brush etc so I don’t need to carry that sort of stuff with me.

Weekends I can survive with the small bag with often not more than my wallet and keys.

I love heading out on the weekends too with just a small bag and a few items … and lucky you with that locker!
