The Armchair Neat Freak : Prints Charming

There is a certain spoof design blog (language warning!) which laughs in the face of clusters of framed prints like these (and many other design trends of the moment). It’s pretty funny, and yet as I scroll through that blog, I realise that I like pretty much every image they are lampooning, so I must be a total dag!

I love a cluster or group of prints, for instance. I don’t mind being a design cliche. Years of visual merchandising have taught me that multiples of items (both similar and identical) have much more impact than just propping one item on a shelf or wall.  Unless that one item is super HUGE and impactful.

Today I thought we would fly in the face of the anti-cliche and look at some lovely prints in some lovely homes. Yes they are in frames. Yes they are in clusters even. Maybe it’s a cliche. I don’t care.  I like it.  It’s good to know what you like, don’t you think?

If you are looking for lovely prints for YOUR house, you could try Etsy or Ebay.  And if you are looking for frames, it’s always a good idea to check out your local op shop or market for prints you can re-invent and frames you can reclaim.  Hard rubbish is good too, if you have a roadside rubbish program in your area (don’t tell anyone I encouraged you to pilfer hard rubbish!)  If you are looking for a more uniform aesthetic, you really can’t go past IKEA for simple, neutral frames. Go there.

Cliche is ok!  Maybe we could go super cliche and put that on a t-shirt.  Or mug.

There is one cliche, though, that I just do not get… the moustache thing!  Can anyone please explain?? Please – it’s been bothering me.

I love that site and I love cluster frames. And terrariums. I have a sneaky suspicion that site is done with love? Keep Calm and Cliche On I say!!!

‘Things’ become cliches because they are so popular! That’s my reasoning, and I’m sticking to it…… ;)

Your right Bethany, things become a cliche because everyone is doing them, therefore, it must be nice. I love the pics, they look fantastic and it’s much better than staring at a bare wall.
