Are you on Pinterest? I am. I am addicted to Pinterest and use it every day. For me, it’s sort of like glancing at a lovely view in the midst of my usual routine. If I’m feeling a bit stuck, I head to Pinterest to loosen up my brain and create some happy/admiring/giggly vibes before I click back onto my real work.
Maybe you are NOT on Pinterest and don’t have a clue about what it is and how it works? Well. Let me tell you…

Pinterest is like your own personal inspiration board, except rather than being on the fridge door or on your cork board, it’s on your computer (or on your phone if you download the Pinterest app!) Pinterest is an online community (just as Facebook or Twitter are) where members ‘Pin’ images which are inspiring or interesting to them on to their own categorised boards (imagine they are virtual cork boards, each one having a different theme!)

Pinterest users can friend (or FOLLOW!) other Pinterest users, and that means that they can see their new friend’s ‘Pins’ in a newsfeed similar to Facebook’s newsfeed. The newsfeed is scrolling with images all day long, just like Facebook’s, and the more friends you have on Pinterest the more your feed will refresh with lovely images.

When you see an image you like pop up in the newsfeed on your Pinterest account there are a few ways you can interact with it:
1. You can LIKE the image (just as you do on Facebook) : it will then appear in your Pinterest LIKES tab
2. You can REPIN the image to one of your own boards : it will then be filed under that BOARD
3. You can COMMENT on the image : yep, just like on Facebook
4. Or you can TAG another use in the comments section of the image (if you want to share something with a friend)
And you can do interesting things on Pinterest like creating GROUP BOARDS and inviting friends or colleagues to contribute to them. Maybe you want to create a board called ‘Fantastic Things With Foxes On Them’ and invite a few pals to add images to the board as they see them online or on Pinterest. You can totally do that. Or create a board in a topic NOT about foxes!

You don’t need to stick to the ‘pins’ or images that appear on Pinterest already, though. You can add fresh images to Pinterest from almost any website by installing the ‘Pin It’ bookmarklet in your toolbar and hitting it every time you want to add an image to your Pinterest. (When you do this, a window will load asking you which image, which Board you want to add it to and inviting you to add a caption.)

You can share your pins straight to Facebook or Twitter by editing your sharing options in the Settings on Pinterest.
Some things to note: Be sure to credit the original source when you Pin anything. Some people only Pin images from their own websites, because of copyright concerns. You can view the Pinterest Terms and Conditions here and make up your own mind about that.
