Did you know that I rediscovered my love of craft and making many years ago when I started doing embroidery. I know that sounds like a line from The Prairie Home Companion or some such, but it’s actually a line straight out of my modern-day, inner city, busy bee life.  Embroidery is the craft I recommend to people who want to reignite their creativity  or start getting a bit handy made for the very first time.  It’s like colouring in with a needle and thread, really, and you can embroider anything you want to. (You’re not just limited to ducks and bonnets!)

Embroidery holds a special place in my heart because it gave me a fresh, crafty kick. That specialness extends to my home, too.  There’s nothing nicer than a flowery embroidered pillow or a cute embroidered table-cloth or a sweetly fashioned ironic cross-stitch.  Embroidery can be naive, modern, Mexican, Nanna… It takes many forms and there is definitely one to fit you.  I promise.

If you’d like to learn how to embroider, head to Sublime Stitching for heaps of great info, designs and things to buy.  If you can’t be fagged to stitch things yourself, you can just look at this lovely gallery of stitchy homewares and wait for inspiration to strike.

Is embroidery your kind of thing?

Embroidery is definitely my thing, although I have never really tried it myself. I love the the colour and texture embroidered stuff gives. The Anthropologie settee is freaking wicked. I want!!
