Home : Eleven Simple Things To Sew This Weekend
Perhaps the last time you sewed, you were in Kindergarten lacing up those cute picture cards with coloured bits of string? Or perhaps you might have been the kind to carefully stitch together Barbie clothes cut from handkerchiefs or old sheets? Or maybe you are way ahead of these sweet sewing attempts, and have had a crack at making your own clothes or cushions or other useful things? That’s ace too.
I know how to sew, because my Mum and Dad sewed a lot when I was growing up. I took for granted the idea that if you wanted something, you could try and make it, and the Singer and cutting board were permanent fixtures in our living room (sidled up alongside the Fondue Pot and the Crock Pot!)
Whether sewing is second nature to you, or whether it’s something you WANT to learn, there are a ton of free or low cost sewing how tos out there for you. I am particularly in love with simple, graphic sewing projects. I don’t think things need to be complicated and multi-faceted to be great.
It’s in this spirit that I’ve compiled this post of simple things to sew. If you’re truly just starting out, choose something without zippers. And if you’re a bit more experienced, go for crisp, clean design or maybe something with a nostalgic nod (but a simple, no-brainer constructions) for an easy, breezy sewing experience.
