Creative: Eleven DIY Ceramic Projects

Did you know that I wrote a book? I totally did, in fact I wrote three books about how to make things. And  a journal too. I am a bit of an overachiever in the book department.

One of my favourite projects in my most recent book is called Ceramic DIY-namic.  It’s all about how to make your own personalised ceramics with special pens that are dishwasher safe. Clever, no?!

Of course, you don’t have to spend your pennies on my book to learn about how to make your own cute drawn-on ceramics.  There are a lot of free tutorials online which show you that very thing.  I’ve scouted about and found the very best ones.  They use porcelain pens, paints, Sharpie markers and decals to weave their cute-bright magic on to plates and cups.  You could also bust out the odd teapot, ceramic tile or egg cup if you are that way inclined.

Here’s how to decorate ceramics, guys. Let’s draw on plates together, okay?!

Have you ever done this? Do you want to? I have and I do!

These are so cool. I love that all you really need is a Sharpie and an oven to give some of them a crack. Love it!

Hate to break it to you – but this REALLY doesn’t work. The Sharpie will wash off the first time you use it. It’s not permanent. If you want to draw on the mug and make it stay – you need to use paint specifically made for ceramics.

I work in a pottery painting studio and we constantly have people who come in, crying, because their gifts were ruined.

Hello! I will contact the blogger who wrote the how-to and let them know. I’ve never tried it. I use Porcelaine Markers when I decorate ceramics, but this project has so much positive feedback online I thought ‘It MUST be true!’ – thanks for the feedack! x Pip
