I’m all about moving forward and staying positive, but sometimes it’s great to look back too. Looking back gives us a fresh perspective and the kind of wisdom hindsight offers. That’s totally positive too, right?! Looking back shows us how far we’ve come, and sometimes looking back can remind us of all kinds of good things and past passions we might have forgotten about (or set aside for another day/decade!)
Today I thought we’d look back in an arty way and take a peek at some great illustrations from another era.
I must admit there’s a lot I like about vintage illustration, perhaps more, even, than the modern stuff. There’s a colourful simplicity to these pieces that I’m totally into. And there’s a nostalgic thread that pulls me back to my childhood and makes me happy. Do you feel like that too?
Here’s eleven great vintage illustrations, for starters. If you’d like to dig a bit further you should take a peek at the Galerie Montmartre catalogue. There are tons of great pieces there. Or head to Flickr and search ‘vintage illustration’ or ‘retro illustration’, there’s a heap of great stuff over there!
(This retro horse print is from the children's book, Songs, 1969, via Newhouse Books)
Do you have a favourite amongst this bunch? Do you like vintage works like these?
